Mathematical alphanumeric symbols appear as boxes with question marks.
When preparing mathematical diagrams, it is proper to use characters from the Mathematical Alphanumeric Symbols block in Unicode. For example, the variable denoted by a lowercase letter ‘a’ is in fact not just an italic ‘a’ but a special character.
MATHEMATICAL ITALIC SMALL A
Italic ‘a’: a
MATHEMATICAL ITALIC SMALL A: 𝑎
I have a number of special mathematics fonts installed, including STIX Two Math and Cambria Math. I’ve tried a few combinations but can’t get proper rendering of those Unicode symbols.
Support for these characters is essential for technical publishing.
